The Question of All Questions: Is Slime Toxic?

If you enter "slime poisonous" in the Google search window, you will get 679,000 results on this topic. Before we started slimeslime.de, we of course also read some of these entries and were a bit put off at first. Why would anyone buy slime when it's so toxic? Why should WE sell slime when it's toxic? I thought about writing this blog article for a long time because it actually reports “negatively” about our product area. BUT I think it's important to understand why so much negative is written about Slime.

The "controversial" substance in slime is borax. In order to maintain the consistency in the slime, this is required. Borax is also included in the DIY slime, because contact lens solution containing borax is usually used for the production. According to the law, no more than 300 milligrams per kilogram may be released. Some of the slime products, which were tested by Stiftung Warentest, contained more than three times the amount of borax allowed. Most of these were imported slimes that did not meet the specified guideline.

What is borax?

It is a naturally occurring mineral that is mined and processed into various boron compounds. The main deposits are in Turkey and California. We consume up to 1.5 mg of boron every day through our food. Mostly from mineral water, on average 0.75 mg per liter. If you want to read more about borax, I recommend the PDF "The Borax Conspiracy (from 2012)" by Walter Last. According to Walter Last, you have to consume large amounts (several grams) of borax over a long period of time to become seriously ill.

slimeslime.de and borax

Our Base-Slime have been tested by Intertek Consumer Goods GmbH and contain very, very small amounts of borax. The limit is 1200 mg/kg (this should be included by law). Our test is 190 mg/kg. I'm writing this because we want to be transparent, in order to take away the fears or uncertainty of parents in particular when buying our slimes. So we assure you that our slimes cannot cause any damage to your health. However, please note all of our instructions.
